Tim Gunn admitted that she has not had sex for 29 years. The Project Runway alum explained that his celibacy was caused by a relationship when he was afraid of the AIDS epidemic.
Gunn, who’s openly gay, hasn’t been too forthcoming about his personal life in the past. But that changed during a visit to ABC’s daytime lifestyle show, “The Revolution,” on Tuesday.
When the topic of conversation honed in on how to jumpstart your sex life, Gunn confessed, “I will share with all of you … I haven’t had sex in 29 years. Do I feel like less of a person for it? No, not even remotely.”
“I’m a perfectly happy, fulfilled individual,” said Gunn, who added, “I have feelings. It’s not as though I am some barren forest.”
The reason? Gunn, 58, said it’s psychological, explaining, “I was in a very intense relationship for a long time and my partner ended it, saying quite frankly that he was impatient with my sexual performance … It was at the cusp of AIDS, and I think a lot of people simply retreated because they were concerned about their health. I certainly was. I’m happy to be healthy and alive, quite frankly.”
But the style maven isn’t ruling out intimacy in the future — he doesn’t have no-sex “mandate.” “I don’t know what’s around the corner, he said.” [via]
