MTV”s thursday night premiere of Jersey Shore Italy was their highest rated season debut. Remember when the series began with fist bumps in the air and Snooki resembling a tanned smurfette who was addicted to pickles and men? According to USA Today the new season was a ratings bonanza for the network. The gang took their antics to Florence, Italy and the gimmick paid off, as 8.8 million total viewers tuned in to watch. Viewership was up 4% from January’s Season 3 premiere, which brought in 8.45 million viewers.

Jersey Shore” returns for its fourth season tonight at 9 p.m., and with it comes everything viewers have learned to love about the eight cast members: Fist-pumping, blowouts, fights and GTL’ing – but on the other side of the Atlantic. The cast left the sandy beaches of Seaside, N.J., and Miami for the Renaissance Capital of the world, Florence, Italy.
The show is the brainchild of Executive Producer SallyAnn Salsano, founder and president of 495 Productions. Salsano, who was almost cast on “The Real World: Miami” in 1996, has a long list of reality-show production credentials, including “Who Knows the Band,” “To Tell the Truth” and “The Blame Game.” She also worked on The Bachelor,” “The Bachelorette,” and “Trista & Ryan’s Wedding.”  Salsano gave the Wall Street Journal a sneak peak at some of the things viewers – more than 8 million people were watching at the end of last season – can look forward to on the new season of “Jersey Shore.” [via]

It certainly was and is no surprise to me that Jersey Shore earned the highest rating on MTV. Jersey Shore is indeed a “cultural phenomenon”. When the first season of Jersey Shore aired I was one of those people that couldn’t understand why anyone would be entertained by watching seven grown people party and act in such an off the wall fashion. The more I watched it, the more addicting the show became. Today I am a Jersey Shore fan. I enjoy it all- the grenades, MVP, GTL, Deena and Snooki slipping and falling over, Pauly and Vinny’s bromance, and especially T-Shirt time! I could live without seeing Ron and Sam break up every other episode and Mike’s instigation antics but I would like to think I’m not the only one. With my employee discount from DISH Network I upgraded to HD so now I can watch MTV and Jersey Shore on my 42″ LCD TV which is more than an excellent combination! Just like MTV is home to Jersey Shore, DISH is home to HD Free for Life and the lowest prices in the TV provider industry- needless to say I would recommend both to anyone!
